[B]Drugs
that modulate the host immune system:
Interferons:They are glycoproteins,produced by virus
infected cells & act on the surrounding normal cells.
3 types:
a) α INF: Induced by virus from WBC
& fibroblast.
b) β INF: Induced by virus from WBC
& fibroblast.
c) γ IFN: Induced by Ag from
lymphocytes.
Mechanism
of actions:They inhibit the translatoin of
viral m-RNA without affecting the transaltion of cellular m-RNA.They act in the
early phase of viral diseases to limit the sperad of virus they are produced
within 4 to 48 hours of infection.
Indications:
1)
Hepatitis C virus infection-α INF.
2)
Chronic granulomatous disease-γ INF.
3)
Kaposi’s sarcoma in AIDS.
4)
Hairy cell leukemia.
