Definition:
ASO titre means Anti streptolysin o titre,i.e antibody against streptolysin O
antigen.ASO antibody appears in the blood following infection with streptococci
that produce streptolysin O.
Function: ASO blocks haemolysis by streptolysin O.
Significant: ASO titre is significance when it is more than 200
units.
Interpertation: Some non streptococcal conditions that occasionally
cause an increase in theroy titre.Such as
·
Rheumatic
fever.
·
Tuberculosis.
·
Hepatitis.
·
Gonorrhoea.
