Triage

Triage is the process of determining the priority of patients' treatments based on the severity of their condition. This rations patient treatment efficiently when resources are insufficient for all to be treated immediately. The term comes from the French verb trier, meaning to separate, sift or select. Triage may result in determining the order and priority of emergency treatment, the order and priority of emergency transport, or the transport destination for the patient. Triage may also be used for patients arriving at the emergency department, or telephoning medical advice systems,[2] among others. This article deals with the concept of triage as it occurs in medical emergencies, including the prehospital setting, disasters, and emergency room treatment. Role of Physiotherapist Outpatient Treatment Physiotherapy is provided for people of all ages in local Community health Centers and rural hospitals. Conditions treated include: Acute and chronic orthopedics conditions Acute and chronic respiratory problems Pediatrics Ante and post-natal care Assessment of chronic neurological conditions for on-going management Provision of gait aids, TENS and nebulizer units Sports injuries Domiciliary Visits Physiotherapists can provide home visits on request by a GP, specialist, Community Health nurse or Allied Health professional. Group Action of Muscles

Group Action of Muscles: Integrated activity of many muscle groups is required for production of efficient functional movement. They are i) Agonists : Group of muscles which contract to provide the force required to produce the movement. ii) Antagonists: These muscles oppose the action of agonists and relax progressively for permitting the movement. iii) Synergists: These groups of muscles work with agonists to provide a suitable activity and facilitates the movements iv) Fixators: These muscles stabilize the bones of origin of the agonists and increases their efficiency for production of movement.
