superficial and systemic mycosis




Superficial mycoses: They infarct the superficial layer of epidermis of skin.It is a mild superficial infection.Infection occurs in the stnatum corneum of skin.It is mainly a cosmetic problem.

Superficial fungal agents with the disease:

Superficial fungal agents→Disease
a)      Malassezia furtur→Pityriasis,Tinea versicolor.
b)      Exophila werneckii→Tinea nigra.
c)      Piedriaea hortae→Black piedra.
d)     Trichoporon cutaneum→White piedra.

Clinical features:

a)      The macular patches enlarge and coalesce.
b)      Scaling.inflammation and itching are minimal.

Diagnoses:Direct microscopic examination of scalping from the infected lesion.Lesion fluoresce under woods lamp.

TreatmentDaily application of selinium sulphide.Topical or oral azoles may also be used.



Systemic mycosesSystemic mycoses are caused by soil fungi.All these fugi are dimorphic. Infection is acquired by inhalation.Infections are usually asymptomatic.In symtomatic conditions,dissemination of infection may occur.

Causative organism:Systemic mycosesare caused by:
a)      Histoplasma capsulatum:Histoplasmosis.
b)      Coccidioldes immitis:Coccidioidomycosis.
c)      Blastomyces dermatitidis:Para coccidioidomycosis.
d)     Paracoccidioides brasilliensis:Blastomycosis.
