Nerve conduction velocity (NCV)



Definition: Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test is a test of the speed of electrical signals through a nerve.

Indication: This test is used to diagnose or damage of nerve or muscle including:
1.     Myopathy
2.     Myasthenia gravis
3.     Alcoholic neuropathy
4.     Diabetic neuropathy
5.     Nerve effects of uremia (from kidney failure)
6.     Traumatic injury to a nerve
7.     Guillain Barre syndrome
8.     Diphtheria
9.     Carpal tunnel syndrome
10.                        Brachial plexopathy
11.                        Chronic inflammatory polyneuropathy
12.                        Nerve dysfunction
13.                        General paresis
14.                        Mononeuritis multiplex
