Inguinal ligament


Formation of inguinal ligament: Inguinal ligament is formed by thickening and in folding of the lower free border of extent oblique aponeurosis.

Attachments:

·         Medially: To pubic tubercle.
·         Laterally: To antero-superior iliac spine.

Situation: It is situated at the groin, the depression between the trunk and thigh.

Structures passing below the inguinal ligament:

(1)   Muscles: Iliopsoas & pectineus.
(2)   Vessels:
a)      Femoral vessels.
b)      Inferior epigastric vessels.
c)      Deep circumflex iliac vessles.
(3)   Nerves:
a)      Femoral nerve.
b)      Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve.
c)      Genitofemoral nerve.

(4)   Lymphatic vessels.
(5)   Femoral sheath.
(6)   Lacunar and pectineal ligament.
