Thoraco-lumbar-sacral orthosis (TLSO) E.g. Jewett orthosis, Boston Brace


Principle:
  1. -          Is used to immobilizer the spine after a spinal injury (Fracture) or spinal surgery.
  2. -          For maximum control of motion.
  3. -          Reduces gross spinal motion ( - ) in flexion, extension, lateral and transverse planes.
  4. -          Offers optimal stabilization with minimal skin pressure concerns clothing friendly and comfortable and fit.
  5. -          The TLSO may also be used post-operatively to limit mobility of a region to enhance bony fusion.


Indication:

  1. -          Post operative maintain of the curvature of scoliosis.
  2. -          Compression fracture.
  3. -          Idiopathic scoliosis.
  4. -          To prevent, support and correct lower dorso lumber scoliosis.
  5. -          It is often used to provide non-operative management of:

§  Burst-type fractures.
§  Multi-level compression fractures.
  1. -          Other indications include restriction of mobility for pain relief due to:

§  Osteomyelitis
§  Discitis
§  Ankylosing spondylosis.
